Dr. Hovasapian is a general dentist with training and experience in treating kids of all ages. We're in the process of incorporating nitrous oxide (laughing gas) in our practice to aid in making dental treatment for kids a seamless process.

Pediatric Dentistry treatment options range from simple fillings (direct restoration), to pulpotomy (cleaning and medicating the pulp chamber in partially diseased baby teeth when the tooth can still be saved) and followed by a stainless steel crown or alternatively esthetic crowns for front teeth.

In some instances, baby (or primary) teeth pulpal tissue disease is extensive and lead to abscess formation which may or may not be accompanied by a swelling visible in the mouth. In situations like these, extraction of the diseased baby tooth is recommended.

When the baby tooth is removed at an early age, the use of "Space Maintainers" will maintain the space of the tooth to prevent arch width collapse and to prepare for the arrival of the future successor permanent tooth and help with adequate development as the patient's growth continuous into puberty years. Once the permanent successor tooth erupt or sheds through the gingival tissue (gums), the space maintainer is removed and the permanent tooth is allowed to fully erupt in position.

Supplemental topical fluoride is usually used after teeth cleanings for kids. Afterwards, the patient/guardian is instructed not to have food/drinks for 30-minutes to allow optimal effect of the fluoride.

In patients with severe & rampant decay lesions, very young age, and high dental anxiety, conscious sedation or general anesthesia may be an option.
