Dental extractions are usually recommended as a last resort when tooth health and restorability is highly questionable, or sometimes, when a patient is and extreme pain and cannot financially afford alternative treatment options at that point of time.

In our practice we use bone graft that has been collected from human donors. The bone graft undergoes rigorous cleansing process where all living cells are removed and the inorganic structure is left behind. The manufacturers sterilize the bone graft particles by various methods and techniques, chemically and by use of radiation, to insure high quality product.

Immediate Implant surgery is when a tooth removal is recommended and undertaken and an implant and bone graft are placed right after the tooth removal is performed. When such procedures is feasible, it is very desired and recommended because it reduces wait time necessary for bone and soft tissue healing before readiness for the final (definitive) implant-supported restoration or prosthesis.

After tooth removal and bone graft placement, and whenever the patient is not a candidate for immediate implant placement or for financial reason want to place the implant at a later date, delayed implant placement is a valid option. After the placement of bone graft, the healing time needed for the formation of new native bone & maturation, is usually 5-6 months for the upper arch (maxillary), and 3 months for the lower arch (mandibular).

This is followed by implant placement and additional healing of the same amount of time for the upper and lower arches, respectively. After healing is complete, and confirmed, radiographically and clinically, the implant will be ready for loading (usage for function).
